C1S Delivers Fast-Track Cleanroom Environment

L3 Communications delivers products and services for the defense products market, specializing in strategic and tactical airborne, space, ground and sea-based communication systems. L3 hired C1S to relocate their clean manufacturing operations from a leased site to their L3-owned facility in Garland, Texas.

C1S took the space from a cold dark shell to a Certified ISO 5 / ISO 7 cleanroom environment in 14 weeks, including design and full buildout of the project. A C1S engineer was on site during construction to work with the construction manager and review subcontractor questions in order to expedite bringing the drawings to life.

New Electrical service, HVAC and plumbing were all needed in the building to facilitate the new production that was to occur in the space. The HVAC system design included makeup air, recirculation air, humidification, and space cooling. Other features included a chemical storage room for hazardous production materials, explosion proof gas cabinets and a deionized, ultra-pure water system.

The greatest challenge of the project was a drop dead deadline of 18 weeks in order for the L3 facility team to get in and start production. During the certification process the certifying agent was only able to identify one particle in the entire space. C1S successfully delivered the $5.2M project in design on time and in budget.

C1S Group offers customers a wide range of specialized services built around our core offerings of engineering, construction and sustainability. As part of our engineering services, C1S has extensive experience in the design and construction of cleanrooms and critical facility environments.
