Lead the Future of Mechanical Design: We’re on the hunt for a Mechanical Department Head to lead our mechanical engineering team with vision, technical excellence, and a sharp eye for innovation. As Mechanical Department Head, you’ll be the go-to expert for all things mechanical—HVAC, plumbing, and process systems. You'll lead a team of talented designers, drive technical standards, and serve as both a mentor and subject matter expert. This is a pivotal role that blends hands-on engineering with strategic leadership. A Typical Day/Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the firm's Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Mechanical and Plumbing systems.

  • Establish, implement, and maintain administrative policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Maintain knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices.

  • Oversee the development and enforcement of design standards, including REVIT modeling protocols, families, and master template development.

  • Monitor industry best practices, codes, and trends to ensure technical competitiveness and regulatory compliance.

  • In partnership with Engineering leadership, oversee the recruiting, interviewing, career development, and assessment of the mechanical and plumbing staff

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate with other department heads and project leadership to allocate resources effectively and meet project timelines.

  • Develop and deliver technical training programs to enhance staff proficiency in mechanical and plumbing systems.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting professional growth and licensure goals.

  • Champion knowledge-sharing and support the development of best practices.

  • Responsible for continuous improvement of the QA/QC review process for mechanical design deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes.

  • Establish and maintain consistent review procedures and checklists across all project phases.

  • Maintain procedures to ensure all designs comply with national, state, and local building codes, energy codes, and relevant industry standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, etc.).

  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and communicate impacts to the team and leadership.

  • Other duties as assigned.

About You: (Your Expertise):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • PE License required.

  • 15+ years of mechanical design experience with MEP consulting or design-build firms.

  • 5+ years in team leadership or department management role.

  • Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD, and mechanical load calculation software.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

  • Strong interpersonal and people skills. Ability to motivate and influence others.

  • Excellent time management and communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • Will require some travel, up to 25%
